Elobau has acquired the assets of Hamburg-based start-up Recalm, a specialist in communication and noise-control systems, through an asset deal. As a result, Recalm will join the Ensian group, of which Elobau is also a member.
Elobau had previously been involved in developing recalm’s first product, the Ancor headrest — a retrofit system designed for use in the cabs of heavy off-highway machinery. The system combines loudspeakers, microphones and sensors to reduce the level of vehicle noise perceived by the operator without the need for headphones. It also enables smartphone integration for hands-free calls, music and radio communication.

Recalm’s existing production activities will be transferred to Elobau’s headquarters in Leutkirch. The company says established processes, an existing organisational structure and long-standing supplier relationships will support the transition, which it adds will also help safeguard jobs.
Through the deal, Elobau is gaining key technologies, products and development resources. The company says combining its existing expertise in physical operating systems, sensor technology and HMI solutions with Recalm’s know-how in sound and voice technologies will create an enhanced offering for machine operation and interaction, while opening up additional markets.
“With recalm, we are strategically expanding our portfolio to include audio, voice and noise-control technologies. Combining these capabilities with our existing expertise in sensor technology and operating systems opens up new opportunities for integrated solutions in human-machine interaction,” says Christian Jordan, Elobau’s managing director.
