Komatsu has announced the acquisition of Malwa Forest AB, a Swedish manufacturer of forestry machinery specialising in cut-to-length thinning equipment. The deal is being made through Komatsu’s wholly-owned subsidiary Komatsu Forest AB, headquartered in Umeå, Sweden, and is scheduled to complete on 1 April 2026, subject to the completion of all required closing procedures and conditions.
Malwa Forest, headquartered in Hyssna, Sweden, manufactures lightweight and compact wheeled harvesters and forwarders designed for thinning operations. Thinning is required during forest growth stages to promote healthy tree development, but can damage tree roots if not carried out carefully. In the Nordic region, soil remains soft for longer periods due to snowmelt and rainfall associated with climate change, increasing demand for machinery capable of performing thinning operations efficiently while minimising damage to soil and trees.
Through the acquisition, Komatsu will add lightweight and compact cut-to-length forestry machinery suited to thinning operations to its portfolio — a product category it did not previously hold. The company intends to pursue synergies by leveraging its global sales and service network, expanding the range of options available to forestry operators from compact machines that minimise soil impact to larger, high-productivity equipment.
