Toyota Material Handling showcased its heavy-duty electric forklift at CeMat 2018.

The fully-electric Traigo 80 counterbalance truck range, which was developed in-house, the replaces the current Traigo HT range and consists of 6-, 7- and 8-tonne models, of which the latter is now also available with 900mm load center.

“We believe we have developed a class-leading heavy-duty 80V truck range and a true alternative to engine-powered counterbalanced trucks,” said Craig Walby, director of product management at Toyota Material Handling Europe.

“Thanks to the choice of battery technologies, high energy efficiency and full floating cabin, the Traigo 80 is a strong member of the Traigo family.”

The 80V vehicle also includes electric power steering to reduce energy consumption and an open chassis-design enables quick placement and retrieval of the forklift’s battery.

“The powerful motors offer strong climbing ability and high travel speed, making the forklift suitable for demanding applications normally reserved for engine-powered forklifts,” Walby added.

“The truck can also maneuver in compact spaces where necessary, for example in production or storage areas, thanks to the sharp rear steering angle.”

This year’s CeMAT exhibition took place in Hannover, Germany, last week (April 23-27).
