Liebherr introduces electric all-rounder mobile harbor crane

Liebherr has extended its mobile harbor crane range with a purely electric all-rounder.

All vehicle movements carried out by the new LPS420 E port crane, including luffing, hoisting and slewing, are powered by the onboard electric motors.

With a high level of modularity, the machine is intended to be appropriate for handling a wide-range of cargo – from containers to bulk, general and heavy lifts (up to 124 tons).

Equipped with two winches, each with a 190kW electric motor, the port crane has a high bulk handling performance capability, able to turnover up to 1,200 metric tons an hour.

A maximum outreach of 48m means that ships sized up to Panamax class can be served by the new machine.

A Liebherr spokesperson said, “Productivity is a decisive factor in modern container handling. The LPS 420 E is an ideal solution for terminals where every container counts.

“With up to 30 cycles per hour, the LPS 420 E is the perfect solution when it comes to container handling performance.”

The low moment of inertia on the crane ensures a fast response of the motor for precise

drive characteristics and, due to the high-motor-speed spread, no gear shifting between normal and heavy load is required.
