MRS Electronic has expanded its portfolio with the CMM9, a compact, CAN-bus-compatible measurement module that combines force and moisture measurement in a single device. Designed for off-highway machinery, it processes measurement signals on-site and transmits them via the CAN bus. Originally developed for agricultural balers, the module is also suited to other applications, such as measuring the weight of payloads in a range of vehicles.
The CMM9 performs signal conditioning within the module. Analogue sensor signals, such as those from strain gauge load cells, are amplified, digitised and transmitted interference-free to the vehicle control system. A switchable reference voltage output provides a stable power supply to the connected sensors, and parameterisation is carried out via MRS Applics Studio, allowing adaptation to individual applications.
The module is offered in three variants, covering combined force and moisture measurement or each function as a standalone version. Force measurement uses two high-precision signal amplifier channels for strain gauge sensors and load cells, while resistive moisture measurement is handled through two dedicated inputs. Five configurable multifunction inputs provide flexible sensor connectivity.
The CMM9 carries an IP6K8 protection rating and operates across a temperature range from –40°C to +85°C. According to MRS Electronic, the combination of high-resolution measurement technology, rugged construction and CAN bus integration enables reliable data acquisition under demanding operating conditions and supports machine manufacturers in developing efficient vehicle concepts.
Typical applications identified by the company include agricultural balers, harvesting and forage handling equipment, other agricultural machinery, and mobile off-highway applications.
