Volvo CE used the Bauma expo in Munich today (April 9) to reveal the first two models in its all-electric compact vehicle range – a wheel loader (the LR25) and an excavator (the ECR25).

Before the eagerly anticipated unveiling ceremony Volvo CE president Melker Jernberg (above, right) said, “Global megatrends and disruptive technologies create challenges and opportunities for all of Volvo Group. We are delivering clean, productive and innovative products, services and technologies for off-highway vehicles.”

“The launch of these new electric vehicles is a milestone for Volvo CE at Bauma. This is a significant step forward in our innovation journey. With this move we become the first construction equipment manufacturer that commits to an electric future in our compact machine range.

“From May 2020 we will start to deliver electric compact excavators EC15 – EC27. And we will start to deliver wheel loaders L20 – L28. And we will stop new diesel development for this machine range. So, we don’t only think about the future, we build it.”

Attention then moved to the two new machines as the covers were taken off to reveal them to the public for the first time.
