Stoneridge has unveiled its EVO electronic control unit (ECU) platform, a centralised electronics architecture built for commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and off-highway equipment, debuting it aboard its Innovation Truck at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, which runs from 15-20 September.
The platform is designed to simplify vehicle electronics as more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), camera-based, connectivity and software-driven functions are adopted across commercial and off-highway machinery. Its rugged, automotive-grade design has been engineered to withstand extreme temperatures, vibration and continuous operation, which Stoneridge says makes it well suited to a wide range of vehicle applications beyond trucks and buses, including off-highway equipment.
Unlike architectures built primarily for passenger vehicles and later adapted, Stoneridge says EVO ECU was designed specifically for the demands of commercial and off-highway machinery, with hardware and software developed together as a foundation. The platform consolidates processing capabilities into a single centralised unit, which the company says enables faster software updates, more efficient diagnostics and the ability to add new features without significant hardware changes.
Reduced maintenance complexity for fleets
For operators, Stoneridge says the EVO ECU can improve uptime and reduce maintenance complexity through enhanced diagnostics, remote software updates and increased machine intelligence. The platform has undergone extensive real-world testing, on Stoneridge’s own test fleet and in customer fleet conditions.

Software modularity and cybersecurity were central to the platform’s development. Through a collaboration with Renesas Electronics and other partners, Stoneridge implemented a scalable software architecture that allows new capabilities to be introduced while maintaining separation between safety-critical functions.

The platform’s scalable architecture is intended to provide additional processing capability and connectivity to support emerging technologies, including further ADAS functions, additional camera applications, sensor integration and future AI-enabled features – capabilities Stoneridge positions as relevant to off-highway machine builders as well as on-road commercial vehicle OEMs.
“Commercial vehicles are increasingly connected and intelligent, but traditional vehicle architectures were not designed to support this pace of innovation,” says Christian Leblanc, global vice president of product and project management at Stoneridge. “EVO provides a scalable platform that simplifies integration, improves vehicle performance and gives customers the flexibility they need to adapt as technology continues to evolve.”
Vision system also extends to wider vehicle applications
Alongside the EVO ECU, Stoneridge is demonstrating its MirrorEye camera monitoring system on the Innovation Truck, including two new functions: MirrorEye Surveillance Mode, which activates an alert and automatically records a video clip when someone approaches or attempts to access a parked vehicle, and Surround View, which offers a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle and any attached trailer to help with manoeuvring in tight spaces.
More than 200,000 MirrorEye systems have been delivered globally since 2020 across six OEM programmes, with two more due to launch in 2028.
