John Deere has announced the acquisition of sprayer manufacturer Mazotti. The privately-held company based in Ravenna, Italy, is a 30-year-old family-owned business and will retain its name, trademark and commercial agreements.

As a result of the announcement, John May, president of agricultural solutions and chief information officer, said that Mazotti will have the full support and commitment of John Deere to enhance the already successful sprayer business.

“Mazzotti is known for its innovation as well as its unique knowledge, designs, and expertise in the sprayer industry. The acquisition of Mazzotti provides John Deere an opportunity to serve more customers in European markets,” May said.

The news of the deal comes soon after the company’s recent acquisition of the road construction equipment business of the Wirtgen Group. Headquartered in Germany, the total price for the privately-held business was €4.6bn (US$5.2bn).
