Smart Perkins oil cap given top Edison Award

The Smart Cap from Perkins has been voted a gold winner at the Edison Awards in New York City this week.

Replacing a traditional oil filler cap, the smart oil cap allows the user to connect their smart device to the engine via an app. The cap then monitors the engine and sends data direct to the app, and works on both new and existing mechanical and electric Perkins’ engines.

“We are watching the popularity of this product grow with each passing day as we meet the needs of our global customers,” said Michael Wright, Perkins general manager, aftermarket.

“There is no device like it, the world’s first low-cost engine-specific connectivity device. This is a breakthrough step forward in aftermarket for us and we are very proud of the team that made this possible and of this award.”

The prestigious awards recognize innovations in the business world and are named in honor of Thomas Alva Edison (1847 – 1931) who was responsible 1,093 US patents through the many and varied inventions he produced.

“This is truly a great honor,” said David Nicoll, Perkins marketing director. “I accept this award on behalf of the great Perkins team, with over 85-years’ heritage and our commitment to constantly press forward with innovative breakthroughs that customers come to expect from Perkins.”
