Jungheinrich has begun production of its new EFG 2/2i and EFG 3/3i electric counterbalanced forklift trucks at its plant in Moosburg, Germany. The first machine in the series, an EFG 320i, left the production line on 26 October.
The range adds to Jungheinrich’s counterbalance portfolio with load capacities of up to 2 tonnes, in a build the manufacturer says combines productivity, safety and a compact footprint. The 2/2i series comprises three-wheel trucks with load capacities from 1.4 to 2.0 tonnes, while the 3/3i series comprises four-wheel trucks with load capacities from 1.6 to 2.0 tonnes.
“With these new series, we have developed forklift trucks that are consistently tailored to the real-world demands of the warehouse – from compactness and ergonomics right through to performance,” says Marek Scheithauer, global portfolio lead for counterbalance light trucks at Jungheinrich.
An integrated lithium-ion battery, revised steering axle geometry and compact design increase the trucks’ space efficiency by up to 15%, according to Jungheinrich. The turning circle is up to 300mm smaller depending on the model, which the company says makes it easier to work in narrow aisles, lorry loading areas and confined production areas.
The trucks are offered in three performance levels. These range from efficiencyPlus for moderate handling, through drive&liftPlus for all-round use, to performancePlus for higher productivity. The performancePlus variant uses permanent-magnet synchronous motors and revised hydraulics to increase handling capacity and energy efficiency. The modular energy concept comprises integrated lithium-ion batteries with capacities of 346, 460 or 690Ah, lead-acid batteries and provision for fuel cell operation.
In the cab, the trucks offer around 100mm more legroom, a lower entry height and a revised steering column, while a vibration-isolated cab reduces the noise level to 63dB(A). A 4.3in touchscreen and redesigned controls are fitted.
A sloping B-pillar reduces the blind spot when reversing by up to 65%, according to the manufacturer, while a low dashboard and optional panoramic roof improve visibility of the forks, load and shelf levels. Driver assistance systems include the AI-powered person detection system addedView and the collision protection system zoneControl. An optional SmartStripe LED light strip indicates braking, direction of travel, warnings and battery status, and real-time operational data, digital service, predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics are also available.
“The new EFG 2/2i and 3/3i series combine measurable productivity benefits with a high level of investment security and future-proofing. In this way, we support our customers in organising their internal processes efficiently today, whilst ensuring they are equipped to meet tomorrow’s requirements,” says Scheithauer
