Hyundai Construction Equipment is launching a dedicated wheeled material handler to the European market. The HW270A MH is a 28-tonne machine aimed at medium to heavy-duty handling applications.
Designed and built specifically as a material handling machine, the HW270A MH uses a wider and longer undercarriage than a wheeled excavator, with outriggers at both ends to maintain stability when working at reach. It is available with a choice of straight or gooseneck arms, offering a maximum working reach of up to 12.41m and a maximum bucket pin height of 5.4m.
The handler is powered by a six-cylinder Stage V diesel engine producing 141kW (189hp). The engine uses a variable pressure turbocharger to optimise airflow for response and economy across operations, while a standard reversible cooling fan improves fuel efficiency and helps maintain uptime in dusty conditions.
An electronically controlled twin-pump hydraulic system works with the engine control to balance economy and performance, and a one-touch Power Boost function delivers additional output for hard digging and heavy lifting. A separate axial piston motor drives a two-stage planetary reduction gear swing motor to provide torque and faster slew times.
The undercarriage is driven by an axial piston motor through a two-speed powershift transmission. The operator can switch from high to low speed in working mode, with a further switch providing a creep speed function. Travel speeds are 4km/h in creep mode, with 9 and 19km/h available in low and high speeds. Automatic multi-disc brakes are released as the transmission pedal is pressed, while a spring-applied, hydraulically released parking brake acts on the transmission shaft.
The HW270A MH is fitted with a hydraulically elevating cab, offering up to 2.6m of lift to give the operator a clear view of the working area and into trucks or loading hoppers. An Emergency Cab Descent system allows safe evacuation in the event of a loss of engine power.
The ROPS/FOPS cab features air conditioning, a reclining seat with lumbar support and heating options, and large windows for all-round visibility, with a rear-view camera fitted as standard. A standard AAVM all-round visibility system with 360-degree cameras gives the operator a full view around the machine, while a virtual wall system helps prevent contact with obstructions and a standard Overload Warning System supports lifting operations.
The seat and controls can be adjusted to suit all operators, with independent height options for the seat and console. A 7in colour monitor and toggle switch allow the operator to select machine preferences to suit the application, and selectable power modes manage the balance between power and economy. Standard joystick steering is fitted to reduce operator effort and fatigue.
Service and maintenance points can be reached from the top, sides and bottom of the upper structure. All Hyundai machines are supplied with the company’s Hi-MATE telematics system, which provides real-time monitoring of machine operating functions along with remote diagnostics..
“The HW270A MH has been specifically built for materials handling operations, delivering increased operator awareness, protection from overloads and collisions, and precise control from a commanding driving position,” says Natalia Barbieri, EU product manager.“With a driveline that has been engineered for performance, the HW270A MH provides a new level of productivity for a wide range of handling applications.”
