Volvo Construction Equipment has started serial production of its A30 Electric and A40 Electric articulated haulers at its Braås facility in Sweden, making them the first battery-electric articulated haulers of this size to enter serial production.
The machines were first revealed at Bauma 2025, with the manufacturer reporting strong customer interest since the unveiling. The A30 Electric and A40 Electric offer payloads of 29 tonnes and 39 tonnes respectively, and can deliver up to six hours of operation on a single charge, depending on the application.
The Braås site is where Volvo CE produced the original Gravel Charlie articulated hauler in 1966. Production of the electric models at the same facility marks a continuation of the site’s role in articulated hauler development.

“Starting serial production of electric articulated haulers of this size is a proud moment for Volvo CE. It shows that our ambition to lead the transformation of our industry is backed by real execution. This milestone proves that electric solutions are ready to meet the demands of heavy, high-productivity applications, and that meaningful change is underway,” says Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE.
The first machines off the production line will be delivered to customers in the UK and Norway in the coming weeks, with additional deliveries to selected customers across Europe planned for the second half of 2026.
“There is a real sense of pride in seeing this move from ambition to reality – not just because we are first, but because we are delivering exactly as promised. Customer interest since Bauma has been strong, with demand extending beyond the initial production schedule,” says Fredrik Tjernström, electromobility solutions sales at Volvo CE.
The electric articulated haulers form part of Volvo CE’s broader strategy to expand its electric product offering.
