Optoi hydraulic cylinder sensor to be showcased at EIMA 2016

Optoi Microelectronics will showcase its OIS21 optical sensor at next week’s (9-13 November) EIMA International show, the International Agricultural and Gardening Machinery Exhibition, being held in Bologna, Italy.

The OIS21 detects the single position sensor of a hydraulic cylinder. Compared to magnetic solutions, OIS21 is robust to external electromagnetic fields and can be applied on iron cylinders, letting the user save money related to more expensive materials.

Since 2001 OIS21 has been mounted on DANA steering axles to know the central position for road driving. Until today 300.000 sensors have been produced, with full customer satisfaction, proving that the optical technology is realiable even in dirty and aggressive environments.

The core technology developed by Optoi Microelectronics and Giuliani Cilindri is patented and based on the reflection of light by the rod, specifically marked thanks to LASER marking processes.

Today a wide range of single position sensors can satisfy new applications. Specific positions and direction of a cylinder can be detected in a simpler way compared to absolute position devices like magnetostrictive sensors, string pots or potentiometers.

Some winning applications are the following: open/closure position of a stabilizer, open/closure position and direction of movement of a lifting cylinder (redundant detection), closure position of a telescopic cylinder (redundant detection).
