JLT helps Steketee increase farmer efficiency

JLT Mobile Computers and Steketee have joined forces in a bid to increase farmer efficiency.

The partnership will see Machinefabriek Steketee incorporate JLT Verso +10 computers into its machines to provide smart farming solutions for precision agriculture.

The IC-Light hoeing solution uses a high-definition integrated camera to distinguish between crops that have and haven’t been cultivated in the field, rendering a digital image that can be used to enable hoeing machine alignment with a high-level of accuracy. The digital image can also be used to measure green surfaces, capture discolorations or count crops, increasing farmers’ efficiency and improving crop yields.

The rugged computer supplied by JLT is IP65 dust-proof and waterproof, and designed to perform in and withstand significant temperature changes, severe vibrations and bright sunlight.

“The compact format, high performance and great resistance to wear and tear make the rugged PCs from JLT very suitable to our needs,” said Don Steketee, R&D director at Steketee.

“The ease with which they can be mounted and dismounted in the farmers’ tractors is another great advantage as this simplifies service and allows devices to be ported between tractors or removed at the end of the working day to prevent theft.”
