Liebherr has expanded its range in the 50-tonne crawler excavator segment with three new models, the R 948 G8, R 952 G8 and R 958 G8, each aimed at a different application.
The R 948 G8 is conceived for earthmoving work and features an LC chassis, specialist equipment and optimised motorisation intended to keep fuel consumption low without compromising on power. The R 952 G8 sits at the centre of the series and is offered with three chassis variants, a wide choice of equipment options and increased engine power for use across varied operating conditions. The R 958 G8 has been developed for mining work, with a robust S-HD chassis, mass excavation equipment and a range of specialist options for mining operations.
The models feature reinforced structures made from high-strength steels and steel castings, with a construction designed to maximise operational readiness and minimise downtime. Maintenance features include an easy-to-reach platform for engine access, secure access points and an automatic central lubrication system integrated into the human-machine interface, with lubrication automatically adapted to protect components.

Liebherr offers a choice of equipment options and chassis configurations so each machine can be matched to the specific operation. The hydraulic systems are based on Liebherr Technology Positive Control for what the manufacturer describes as fast, sensitive and harmonised movements.
New assistance systems support operators in daily work. According to Liebherr, its Power Efficiency (LPE) system helps reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%, while the Bucket Fill Assist (BFA) system automates bucket filling to maintain productivity over time. A Modetronic function adjusts machine parameters to the requirements of each application.
The models are fitted as standard with an integrated passive 2D control system developed with Leica Geosystems, complemented by a built-in dynamic weighing system, which provides 500 machine hours as standard for controlled loading. A 3D control solution is available as an option and can be expanded with semi-automated functions.

The machines are fitted with the latest generation of Liebherr’s emCAB operator’s cabin, combined with the Intusi human-machine interface. Liebherr says the layout of the control elements has been optimised so operators can see and reach the controls quickly, helping to reduce fatigue across the working day, while electric joysticks control movements with what the manufacturer describes as smoothness and precision.
Camera assistance systems are fitted as standard to improve the operator’s view of the working area, with a Skyview 360° all-round view available as an option. Safer access platforms, clear views of key operating fluid levels and low-lying refuelling and filling solutions are also included
