Enhanced S-series work lamps from Forvia Hella offer increased lumen output and optimised protection electronics without requiring design changes for OEM integration
Forvia Hella has further developed its S-series LED work lamps, achieving higher light output, increased efficiency, revised protection electronics and a broader variant and design portfolio without changing the design.
In off- and on-highway applications, work light is safety- and productivity-relevant. In fields, on construction sites, in warehouses or during municipal winter service, machines must illuminate working areas reliably despite vibration, temperature fluctuations, contamination and unstable on-board electrical systems.
The S-series was developed for these requirements. Since its 2021 launch, it has followed a simple, steady and streamlined approach, combining robust technology with value for agricultural machinery, construction machinery, forklifts, trucks, trailers and municipal vehicles.
Higher light output
The focus is a significant increase in light output, measured in lumens. The Module 90 S-series variant IV increases from 4,000 to up to 4,500 lumens, the Ultra Beam S-series from 4,400 to up to 4,800 lumens, and the Oval 100 S-series from 1,850 to up to 2,150 lumens.
The higher performance also improves efficiency. For the Module 90 S-series and Ultra Beam S-series, power consumption has been reduced despite higher light output, resulting in a higher lumen-per-watt value. This was achieved through optimised electronics and a more powerful LED generation.
Decisive for off- and on-highway use, no design adaptation was required. Existing dimensions are retained. For OEMs, this means maximum compatibility, with upgraded lamps integrated as direct replacements without re-engineering vehicle platforms or installation concepts.
Optimised electronics
The advances concern the control and protection electronics. Central to this are new LED driver circuits that supply LEDs with precise power, combined with more efficient LEDs. This increases efficiency, reduces thermal stress and improves thermal behaviour, supporting service life.
The protection circuit was revised for more robust behaviour against external influences. In variants with 2,150 lumens and over 4,500 lumens, input-voltage hysteresis keeps switch-on and switch-off thresholds at a defined distance. This compensates for on-board electrical system fluctuations and ensures stable operation.
For selected high-performance variants, such as the Ultra Beam S-series and Module 90 VI S-series, an additional circuit reduces device performance at low input voltage. This relieves weak on-board electrical systems and counteracts voltage drops, for example with long vehicle cables. All products have built-in device protection.
Expanded portfolio
In addition to the performance increase, the variant portfolio has been expanded. The Power Beam S-series is now offered in a 2,150-lumen version, which is suited to both close- and long-range illumination. The S-series covers many designs, and performance levels for diverse vehicle concepts.
Black Edition
With the Black Edition, Forvia Hella adds black-design variants for a modern vehicle look. New additions include Power Beam S-series variants I with 1,150 lumens and III with 2,150 lumens, plus the Oval 100 S-series with side mounting, each for close-range and long-range illumination. This completes the Black Edition across all S-series product families.
“With the developed S-series, we are once again setting standards in the off- and on-highway segment, increasing light output, efficiency and electronics robustness while retaining the same design and integration reliability for our customers,” says Dr Fabian Utermöhlen, vice president sales and marketing in the Lifecycle Solutions Business Group at Forvia Hella.
