Pyroban prepares for change to EU law on explosion prevention

Pyroban has announced a two-year program of investment to prepare for the forthcoming stricter EU standard addressing the prevention of industrial vehicle explosions.

The EN1755:2015 standard, which replaces EN1755:2000, arrives in November 2017 and will be mandatory for all new orders for lift-trucks used in zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 classified areas from that time forward.

The updated regulations will see the technical makeup of an Atex 2014/34/EU truck conversion change, with tires, seats, batteries and the management of electrical static risks all set to be different. As a result, the need to consider ongoing maintenance requirements, including service engineering training, will be apparent.

To be ready for the new standard, titled Safety of industrial trucks. Operation in potentially explosive atmospheres. Use in flammable gas, vapour, mist and dust, Pyroban is investing to ensure its products are updated accordingly and comply with the explosion protection requirements.

“Supporting the end user and OEM supply chain through these changes is a priority for Pyroban,” said Steve Noakes, engineering and operations manager for Pyroban.

“To manage risk, it is important that those liable for placing the truck on the market, for approving the conversion in line with EN3691, or responsible for on-site safety and ATEX compliance, know about these changes, and are confident that their suppliers are ready to meet the new requirements.”
