Blackthorn Environmental Limited is a specialist in the design and supply of exhaust systems for the off-highway sector. Our products include exhaust pipes, silencers, catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters, which can be made from mild, aluminised or stainless steel (and painted or powder coated if required).

Design is a very important part of our customer offering, and therefore we make use of the latest technologies such as 3D modelling and acoustic prediction software.

The control of exhaust emissions is of paramount importance to many of our customers, and we play an important role in helping them meet their targets.

In the case of gaseous emissions, we can supply two-way or three-way catalytic converters for spark-ignition engines and oxidation catalytic converters for diesel engines. If the problem is diesel particulate matter, we offer a choice of two different technologies: partial filters which typically achieve a reduction of about 50% and wall-flow filters which have efficiency greater than 95%. Our wall-flow filter systems combine active and passive regeneration which makes them suitable for any diesel engine, regardless of exhaust gas temperature, duty cycle or fuel sulphur level.

We recognise that OEM customers in the off-highway sector require their exhaust systems to meet exacting standards in terms of durability, fit and finish, and these areas are all addressed in our quality assurance policy which has been assessed to ISO9001:2008. In addition they rightly expect responsive service and support from their exhaust supplier, especially when undertaking development projects, despite the fact that R&D budgets may be tight and batch sizes small. Blackthorn has structured its operations especially to deal effectively with this type of scenario, for example, we are happy to carry out field testing at customers’ premises, and we can fulfil orders ranging from a single piece to several hundred systems.
